Prose: gaming-grade creative volume, applied to hair care

What changed when a DTC hair-care brand adopted the creative throughput conventions of mobile gaming user acquisition.

This piece is now part of a longer guide: AppLovin creative: the complete guide.

Prose came to us with the problem most consumer brands on a performance channel eventually hit: the creative was good and there was not enough of it.

The gap

Gaming advertisers routinely run tens of thousands of creatives against a single campaign. Consumer brands at the high end run about a thousand. That is not a difference in budget, it is a difference in operating habit, and the auction notices.

What we changed

Concepting stopped producing finished films and started producing concept systems. Each idea is defined by what can vary inside it without breaking it: opening, creator, problem frame, demonstration, ending. One approved idea becomes a family of assets rather than a single asset.

Why it matters on this channel

A channel that rewards specificity punishes brands that can only afford to be general. Volume is what buys specificity, because it lets you address a motivation rather than an average.

The honest caveat

Volume alone does nothing. The reason this works is that the variation is designed around a question, so the results explain themselves and feed the next brief. Without that, more assets just means a larger pile.
